Elena Stoyanova holds a PhD in National Security (field: Aviation Security) from the Department of Air Force and Air Defense at the Command and Staff Faculty of the “G. S. Rakovski” National Defence College. Her research interests include national security, civil aviation security and safety, and behavioral analysis.

This article analyzes the key factors influencing the effectiveness of the security measures implemented by aviation operators, emphasizing their impact on the overall level of civil aviation protection. The study examines external factors such as economic, political, and geographical conditions, as well as internal factors primarily related to the human element. Conclusions are formulated regarding the need for risk management, organizational culture, staff training, motivation and the development of a sustainable security culture.
