Angelina Markovska is a Professor and PhD in Political Science at the Department of National Security and Political Science, Faculty of Philosophy, at St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. She is also an Associate Professor of Modern and Contemporary General History at the Section of Contemporary History and Geopolitics, Institute for Historical Studies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Her research interests lie in the fields of contemporary history, geopolitics, international relations theory, foreign policy, and diplomacy.

The paper conceptualizes artificial intelligence as a structural driver of global transformation, wherein control over data and computational infrastructures displaces the classical territorial paradigm of power. Through an analysis of the strategic competition among the United States, China, and Russia, it advances the argument for the emergence of a “digital heartland” and underscores the need to reconceptualize the analytical framework of contemporary geopolitics.
