The Security and Defense Scientific Journal is the first scientific publication of the Vasil Levski National Military University, published in 2022. The journal is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed academic publication with a scientific and scientific-educational character. Its purpose is to contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge and results of interdisciplinary theoretical-methodological and scientific-applied research on modern aspects of military affairs, science and technology in the field of security and defense and related problems. The journal is aimed at a wide range of readers - researchers, specialists from practice, trainees, students, doctoral students and everyone who is interested in the scientific research problems presented in it.
The Security and Defense Scientific journal creates a discussion environment for the exchange of scientific ideas and results of scientific research with importance, significance and usefulness in the field of security and defense, as well as related scientific research. In two books a year, the results of scientific research by representatives of academic circles are published, articles on various significant and current problems with a theoretical, analytical or empirical focus on subjects related to security policy, with important economic, military, social and other problems having relation to security and defense. The journal is open to authors external to the university (Bulgarian and foreign), whose materials correspond to the thematic orientation and the accepted requirements for publication. In order to ensure access to a wider circle of authors and readers among the international scientific community, the policy of the journal allows the published materials to be in Bulgarian or English.
The purpose of the journal is not only to respond to new trends in the quality of scientific research, but also in the conditions of an ethical scientific environment and dynamic competition, to provide an opportunity for correct scientific dialogue with increased awareness and collegiality in the field of security and defense. In this regard, the Editorial Board of the journal follows a clear policy of adherence to established ethical principles and norms relating to the parties related to the publication of the Security and Defense Scientific journal: authors, reviewers, editor-in-chief and editorial board, publisher. The journal has a Board of independent reviewers. All received materials, after passing through verification through the specialized software product StrikePlagiarism.com, provided by the Ministry of Education and Science to all higher education institutions in the country, are directed to double blind peer review. Reviewers are randomly selected according to the thematic focus of the submitted research by the editor-in-chief of the journal.

The Security and Defense Scientific Journal is an open access journal, which lowers barriers that limit access to knowledge and maximizes the opportunity for publications to be read and authors to be recognized for their contributions to their chosen field and beyond.
The Journal content can be freely accessed at University site. All Journal content is available for immediate free access access to the work and permitting any user to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purposes.
No fees are required from authors for publication.

The Security and Defense Scientific Journal is under ID No. 4715 in the National Reference List (NRL) of contemporary Bulgarian scientific publications with peer review, maintained by the Minister of Education and Science through the National Center for Information and Documentation.
