Stefko Burdzhiev is an associate professor in “Systems and Devices for Environmental Protection”, a PhD in “Protection of the Population and the National Economy” in the Department of “Heat Engineering, Hydraulics and Engineering Ecology” of the Faculty of Agriculture and Industry at the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev” in Ruse, and the Department of “Public Order and Security” of the Faculty of Law at the Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” in Varna. His scientific interests are in the field of National Security, Radiation and Chemical Protection of the Population and Systems and Devices for Environmental Protection.

Резюме

In the conditions of the increasingly complicated international security environment, the possibility of using one of the many means of mass destruction, their many advanced and state-of-the-art arsenals around the world, is becoming increasingly likely. An extremely great challenge for scientists today is to understand how the devastating effects of nuclear weapons affect the surrounding biological world, infrastructure, material and cultural values.
In this context, the bitter experience that the world has from the use of nuclear weapons in the last century requires us to be much more vigilant and, more importantly, far more prepared for the possible consequences of such an apocalyptic development of international relations. As the most powerful means of mass destruction, nuclear weapons, through their devastating factors, will also have a very severe impact on all agricultural production – crops, animals, food products and feed.
